Get ready to enter your song in the Lion Foundation Songwriting Competition – open to all NZ secondary school students
Entry forms for online and post will be on the website Thursday 1 March. And remember you can also earn NCEA credits for the song if you are the sole composer of the music.
The awards from the competition include;
The Lion Foundation Songwriting Award for First Place
School Of The Year Award
David Richwhite Lyric Award
Cheese On Toast Award for best alternative song
Top 40 prizes include a professional recording studio session to record your song (to the value of $750) which then goes on the Play It Strange CD.
Songs are judged on creative grounds, words and music equally. The performance and recording quality of the entry is irrelevant.
The Lion Foundation Songwriting Competition is open to students in years 9 to 13. The top finalists in any year are given the chance to professionally record their original composition and have it included on the Play It Strange CD for the year.

The number of songs placed in the finals is funding dependent but it is usually forty songs in total.
